Attractions

While you are in Delaware, perhaps you would like to visit a few local attractions (although despite rumors to the contrary, there is not a screen door factory in Delaware). Alternatively, the wedding will be held just a short drive from Philadelphia and they have much more to do there.

*Note: 8/24 is also UD's move-in weekend so be aware if planning to head to the downtown Newark area.

Peter and Melissa Recommend:

University of Delaware* The place that we went to school/met.
Main Street* Unsurprisingly very close to the University! This is your typical college main street, which mostly houses bars and restaurants with the occasional bakery...
Bing's Bakery* The best bakery in Delaware.
Penny Hall* Mineralogical museum near at the University of Delaware. Rocks are cool, m’kay?
Iron Hill Museum Melissa spent many summers here. Peter went along and helped her corral kids on an overnight trip once. He was the lord of fire and felt the envy of all the little boys.
Dairy Palace A romantic spot right on the side of a very busy road that serves malted milkshakes the size of your head. They will, for a small fee, add a ton of candy to your milkshake and give you diabetes.

Other nearby sights:

Delaware Art Museum Generally modern art, or perhaps it's post-modern. Whatever it is, I must be more modern than it because I'm totally over it.
Brandywine River Museum Home to a large multi-generational collection of Wyeth artwork, and also quite a nice architectural building.
Brandywine Creek State Park Hilly and sometimes muddy, but a good for running.
Even more places Recommendations from our chosen hotel.

Philadelphia:

Franklin Institute It's the Franklin Institute! All the science museum your heart (and/or your giant walk-through heart diorama) desires.
Tons of other things Maybe you'll want to choose for yourself.
